Texas Fields

I originally planned on spending this past Saturday evening at the batting cages for about an hour.  But after I drove over to the nearest location and found that they closed at 6 PM and not 9 PM as Google Maps told me, I decided to return to my apartment and grab my camera (all these images were taken with my D300 and my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8).  I had noticed this empty field right across the street from my apartment complex a couple weeks ago and wanted to go over there during the “golden hour” to get some shots.  As the sun was slowly setting, I spent about 45 minutes out there taking pictures – the results of which you can find in this blog entry, in my next blog entry, and daily on Flickr for the next week or so.  Next time I do engagement photos here in Austin, I think this would be a perfect location.  Feel free to comment with your thoughts and share via Facebook or Twitter.  Thanks!

Cakes

My photo “Cakes” was honored as the Light & Composition Photo of the Day for March 7th, similar to my photo “Mozart’s Snowflake” for March 5. I included another of the pictures that I took of those cupcakes below as a benefit for those who took the time to check out my blog. Here’s a little more about the picture:

Everyone loves a birthday party. My girlfriend’s (now fiancee’s) family was excited to celebrate the first birthday of the newest member of the family – Avalyn. Her great-grandparents hosted the birthday party at their farm in Illinois, and many of the cousins, uncles, and aunts brought treats and presents. These were some of the cupcakes made for Avalyn’s party. Stacked as they were, it presented a perfect situation to capture an image with a small depth of field. Unfortunately, I didn’t own a prime lens at the time, so f/5.6 had to suffice.

Mozart’s Snowflake

The image shown below was featured on Light and Composition’s website as “Photo of the Day” for March 5.  I thought that it would only be appropriate if I featured it as the “Photo of the Day” on my own blog!

This picture was taken during a Meetup photoshoot in Austin, Texas. There is a small coffee place near downtown Austin called Mozart’s that displays a large amount of Christmas lights around the holidays. Several photographers got together and took pictures of the various lights at dusk. The lighting was good at this time of day to capture the Christmas lights, and I found a good angle to photograph this snowflake light. That night brought me back to a time in my life when Christmas was magical.  I hope it does the same for you!  Click on the picture to be taken to Light and Composition’s website.  It’s a competition, so help me out by clicking the “Like” or “Tweet” buttons!
