Zilker Park Trail of Lights
Welcome to 2013! I wanted to do a quick post on here with some pictures from the Zilker Park Trail of Lights here in Austin. I posted all of these on Facebook already, but why have a photography blog if I’m not going to put my photography on it? For the last two years – my only years in Austin, there was no Trail of Lights due to budget issues, so this was my first visit! Here’s a brief description of the Trail: Zilker Park is the largest park in Austin and is surrounded by a circular drive where people normally park their cars, but during the time of the Trail, Zliker is shut down and all the lights and various scenes are setup along this circular drive. You park nearby (or far away) and walk thru the trail, which ends at the huge Christmas Tree made of lights. “The Zilker Tree stands 155 feet tall and is composed of 39 streamers, each holding 81 multicolored, 25-watt bulbs – totaling 3,309 lights” (from austintexas.gov). It’s pretty impressive in person, and a lot of fun to stand underneath and spin around (last picture). Hope all my blog readers had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. All Together Now | Kovacs Family
It’s that time of the year again – stories of angels, shepherds, and a newborn baby, carols, hot chocolate, the smell of pine trees, sparkling lights, presents, and cards in the mail. But what does everyone need to be able to create a good looking Christmas card? Family pictures, of course! Especially if they’ve welcomed a new addition into the family since they sent last year’s Christmas card. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to do two family sessions this holiday season, the first of which was for the Kovacs family. Their baby girl, Campbell, was born on November 23 – still only about a week old when we took these photos. So small! I met Zoli through work, and it has been a real pleasure to get to know him and his family better over the last few years. A beautiful family and a beautiful private park right near their home make my job really easy! The opportunity to capture memories, specific moments in time, for friends and family is definitely my favorite thing about photography.
Winter
My apologies for not posting in quite a while. Although camera issues are probably the worst thing for a photographer, computer issues would be a close second these days, at least for all of us who only shoot digital. And unfortunately, I had some connectivity issues at the end of 2011 that seem to have been resolved now that I reinstalled Windows and all the programs that I need. I think it’s beneficial to do a complete system reboot every once in a while and backup all your important data. (All you Mac snobs can just keep your Windows opinions to yourselves, haha. My Windows 7 machine does everything I need it to for half the price. If I have to reinstall Windows every 2 years, so be it.) Anyways, during my “down time,” I had several good ideas for new posts that should be coming up here shortly, including a BEST OF 2011 post. If anyone has anything else they’d like to see, please let me know.
Below are some “Winter” images – the ones of the lunar halo (caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere) I just took on Saturday, but the Christmas images are belated due to the aforementioned computer issues. Consider this my annual Merry Christmas post to you, including my favorite picture of our first Christmas together as “The Wilsons.”
