Cakes

My photo “Cakes” was honored as the Light & Composition Photo of the Day for March 7th, similar to my photo “Mozart’s Snowflake” for March 5. I included another of the pictures that I took of those cupcakes below as a benefit for those who took the time to check out my blog. Here’s a little more about the picture:

Everyone loves a birthday party. My girlfriend’s (now fiancee’s) family was excited to celebrate the first birthday of the newest member of the family – Avalyn. Her great-grandparents hosted the birthday party at their farm in Illinois, and many of the cousins, uncles, and aunts brought treats and presents. These were some of the cupcakes made for Avalyn’s party. Stacked as they were, it presented a perfect situation to capture an image with a small depth of field. Unfortunately, I didn’t own a prime lens at the time, so f/5.6 had to suffice.

Cuba Gallery Photography

Since I don’t have a lot of new stuff, I thought I’d share some photography that I enjoy.  I have become a big fan of the photography shown in the link below, taken by a guy named Andrew.  He uses a Nikon D3 and goes by the title “Cuba Gallery.” You can find his blog here – http://lightroomtutorials.blogspot.com/ – and his Flickr page here – http://www.flickr.com/photos/cubagallery/.

The processing done on these images using Adobe Lightroom 3 is impressive, and his blog shows a lot of before and after pictures.  There is also a Lightroom Tutorial document for sale if you would like to know more about how he processes these pictures.  Take some time to enjoy the below photographs and browse my blog archives! I’ll be posting some new stuff soon!

Paul & Anne Scharnett [8.7.10]

I posted a preview of these pictures back in September, but since it was my first wedding as the official photographer, I thought a full post of my favorite shots (Flickr set) was necessary.  As I said in my last post, it was a great blessing to be able to capture these memories for Paul and Anne.  I hope you all enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.  If you do, share this on Twitter or Facebook (there’s a “Share Bar” at the bottom of the post) and let more celebrate with the Scharnetts!  Congratulations, Paul and Anne Scharnett! (With regards to lenses, I used mainly a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 (standard) and a Nikon 12-24mm f/4 (wide angle). I also rented a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 (zoom) from Calumet Photo for the weekend and had a 35mm f/1.8 (prime). Those covered all the bases. Also, i shot with my Nikon D300 and my D50 bodies, in case you were wondering.)
